Twisted

I spent the day in Chesterfield so my photo today had to be the twisted spire, which I've loved since I first saw it when I was little.
Good shot. I have lived here all my life and have still never been up it :-) hope you had a good day.

I love these spires and always wonder when I see them how on earth they were built! Wonderful Louise :)

@andrina
This was built using unseasoned wood - the weight of the lead on top caused the twist. There are of course several other tales about how the spire came to be twisted, here's a link which has a bit more info about the spire too. http://www.derbyshireheritage.co.uk/Menu/Curiosities/chesterfield-crooked-spire.php

It was a dragon that sat on it, and curled it's tail around it that twisted it. @tryingforsighs I grew up in Chesterfield for the first 20 years of my life and I never went up it either.

@iwatts
I was in Chesterfield last weekend and very nearly did the tower tour, but we just didn't have enough time! My aunt lives there so I've been going since I was very small, but haven't been up the tower yet either!
