We had a lovely day - we spent some time on a grouse moor and some time walking in the forest, with lovely light and some tasty snacks thrown in too! I had lots of photos to choose from, but I love grouse and spending time on the moorland listening to their 'go back' calls is something I'll never tire of!

What a beautiful walk! You certainly did have some lovely weather today. I love the mixture of water, forest and open countryside on your walk. Very envious! I just had the mud!!!!! :)
Certainly was a great day for a walk, spent a lot of time peeling off layers :) The boys would have loved to have seen these. Great tones and the contrast with last year is staggering :)
Well captured to depict the birds in their habitat . . . the excitement you feel when you spot them is largely due to how they are so hidden in the grasses.
@jyokota
Thanks. It's not hard at all to spot grouse on these moors though as there are lots of them and they often perch on the rocks! I just love them!
@roachling -- I just got back from Costa Rica where I saw chachalaca in a similar grassy field, but it was very far away and hard to spot. Would be interesting to see grouse!
I know I commented on this, but I must not have hit the "post" button. Sorry! I love the light and the soft shades in this, and the grouse making their way through the grass are lovely. So glad that in this instance at least, they are being appreciated aesthetically and as living things, and not as the potential victims of hunters. Fav for me.
This is a great shot of them among the grasses. I have just looked at your weekend blog and you have taken some fab photos on your walk, wish I had been there, it looked beautiful to walk through.

Thanks Jen :)
The walk was Macclesfield Forest, glad you enjoyed the blog.
