I know the feeling, you take the images, but somehow life creeps up on you doesn't it? I love this, the colours are beautiful, and somehow it portrays that lovely acrobatic performance. I haven't seen it this year... must find a starling roost...fav'd
Awesome, I love watching them do this. Cracking photo Louise. By the way, I seem to have lost the link to your blog. Can you send it to me again please? Not sure what I have done !!!!
Great capture; I do love to watch the starlings. If you watch with a group of people it's like watching fireworks with all the 'oohing' and 'aahing' :-)
Awesome shot, what a sight, that must have been wonderful to behold. We had a huge murmuration in aberystwyth when I was at Uni and thy always put on a spectacular display.
Great capture of an amazing sight -- I've never tried taking a picture but I've seen this many times. It's as if they have one brain telling them all what to do. Dip, soar, veer to the right, veer to the left. . . .
This is breathtaking and certainly a fav for me. I believe passenger pigeons, extinct since 1914 because of hunting and habitat destruction, once looked like this as they filled the skies in migratory flights which took days to pass. Makes one think, doesn't it? May we never be without starlings!
Thanks for all the comments everyone, I didn't expect so many as I didn't think this shot was anything special. It wasn't the best murmuration, but it's the first time I've seen a proper one and I was thrilled that it's not far from here as starlings are not common around me. I have blogged some more photos for anyone interested, but they're not terribly exciting, especially if you've seen better murmurations! http://roachling.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/a-chattering-of-starlings.html
@roachling I have only every seen one murmuration near Souter lighthouse, yours shots however are amazing. What a sight to have seen enjoyed the rest of the shots
