Dicranopalpus ramosus by roachling

Dicranopalpus ramosus

One of my favourite harvestmen, I love these guys! Found in the garden this afternoon, along with a shieldbug.
Nice catch although they always remind me of being bitten when play on the hay bales as a kid.. :)

Great nature shot. How did it get that name?

@dailydelight I don't know about 'ramosus' but the dicranopalpus bit will be to do with one its distinguishing features - the pedipa;ps are forked. The other give away feature is that it sits with the legs out to the sides. These have only been over here for 20 years or so, arriving from Morroco via Europe from the early 1950s, gradually spreading. I think there are about ten or twelve Dicranopalplus harvestman species but just D. ramosus in the UK as far as I know, so if I see one with legs to the side, I know straight away what it is, which is handy!
