Nesting in this tree, with, I think, some young ones in the nest. Watching it closely in hopes of some better lighting (i.e. earlier in the day, faster shutter speeds, etc.) and hopefully some "family portraits".
Stunning colors on this gorgeous bird, Rob! Lovely dof .. your clarity is amazing!! The one thing that I've learned about lighting (especially sunny days) is don't take photos from noon to late afternoon. Early morning and evening are the best .. of course, you already know that. It took me several hundred photos to learn. lol This photo of yours is truly beautiful.

Thanks, Karen. What you say about light, I know, but too often ignore. The reminders never hurt. It's a rare day when I make the luxury of lining up everything perfectly. It's more often a matter of having the camera with me 24/7 and grabbing what presents itself!
Uhm, interesting to see this picture, since my son called me today to see that we had two red-headed woodpeckers in our backyard. I haven't download them, but I don't expect them to be as good as this one. Great shot.
