A cold and rainy day conspired with an array of long overdue household chores to keep me away from the camera. I spotted a pair of loons on Lake Auburn yesterday and I can hardly wait to get my kyak out to see if my "own" pair of loons have returned to "The Basin", a quiet little lake with no homes or other structures anywhere on the shore. This is a shot from last year. I never tire of these critters. On most days they let me approach to within a few feet.

Karen, Glad you like it. I should have included the following link to a video that I shot a couple of years ago. An adult and chick and a very large fish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w20B8NSdqA
Starts off a little slow, but if you stick with it I think you may find it interesting.
@redrucksack@tobi
eva and santina,
Glad you liked the loon. Hopefully we'll all seeing more of them this summer. One of my favorites; beautiful, friendly and approachable once they become familiar with them. I've been following this family for several years now.
@jenniferruge
Jennifer, as may know, this is what they call "breeding plumage" . At other times of the year they really look quite ordinary. @groovygirlrn@victorypuzzle Thanks all for the kind words.
Beautiful! Loons are one of my most favourite birds. I love listening to them and they are so good looking! Great photo! Haven't seen any yet this year. Hope to soon.
@lynnb Lynn, Good luck. Hope the loons cooperate for you. I've been following the same pair for several years now and I'm convinced that they recognize my blue kayak and/or my voice. By the way, thinking of your "avatar", when I was on the water today I did see one lone Canada Goose who showed no desire to fly off when I approached. Will give her plenty of room as I suspect I may have nest soon. A pair nested last year, but one day I found the 2 eggs floating in the water and the nest apparently abandonned.
@rob257 Thanks Rob. I know I will see some this year. Usually some down at Waterton Park (southern Alberta) and I am driving across Canada from Alberta to Central Eastern Ontario next week, so hope to see some then too.

Lynn and Linda, Thanks for stopping in and for our kind words.
Lynn, I envy you the road trip. Between 1962 and 1971 I drove the Trans Canada, east to west, every summer. Always loved the drive and the people we met along the way. Beautiful country!
