Showing Off Balance Skills

Still haven't figured out what's up with this lone goose. Always in the same area; always alone.
After lifting up one leg and spreading a wing, he (or she?) put the leg back down, folded the wing back in, and resumed a normal posture.
That's so cool! She/he is just showing off for you! "Can you do this?" I notice the white dot on the forehead! I have seen a couple of geese with this spot, wonder what the significance, if any, it has.

So beautiful, Rob. Soft and delicate ...the lighting and colors are fabulous!

Glad you liked this shot. I'll have to check with the binoculars tomorrow and see if I can figure out what that white spot is. I hadn't noticed it, then thought maybe it was just glare. Not sure.

Thanks, santina. I have a good friend who's retiring at the end of the school year. She likes geese and I think I'll make a card of this one for her.

I spent some time today observing a couple of the Canada Geese and have concluded that the "white spot" is a light relfection of the shiny black feathers on the head.

Fantastic capture of his foot in the air.

Didn't even notice the foot until I downloaded. I was going for the wing! ;-)

I think I was wrong about the "white spot" being a light reflection. Have checked my "Sibley's" guide: he notes that individuals of all populations of Canada geese may have dark cheeks and/or a white forehead. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Rob
