Thanks for your comments and interest. Old nest, which had been under almost a foot of water, is once again "high and dry", and seemingly in good shape. The question is whether they'll try again this season, and if so, where. Stay tuned. (I probably "burn more film" - digitally speaking - on loons than any other critter.)
Wonderful shot! I think I need a boat to stalk these guys. I have never been able to get a decent shot. And I've tried a lot! You've captured some great details.

Amanda, On dry land I can't sneak up on a stone wall. A kayak with a rudder, and a little patience, makes it much easier. It also helps that after many non-threatening encounters they begin to recognize you and on some days will pretty much ignore the fact that you're there. Then on other days, they seem to stay just out of range. And, yes, Livia, their breeding plummage is beautiful. In the winter they really look quite ordinary. Thanks, both, for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.

One of my favorite "friends". They come back every year and tolerate my presence very graciously. Thanks for your comments.
Glad you liked it and I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
