Female Redwing Blackbird

The females look so different from the males that I keep wanting to think that they're another kind of bird. Beautiful in their own right, for sure.

Beautiful focus and light. We have them around here but I've never looked closely at one of the females. I'm always amazed by such crisp small bird shots as I have such a hard time with them myself.

@kt365 KT, Believe me this one shot was preceded by a ton of deletes. I try to get the fastest shutter speed I can, hope the kayak stays steady, and then pray. Yup, lots of that! ;-)

We had a hard time identifying her until our daughter pointed out that they appear with the redwing blackbird. Then it was obvious. Ours like to think they're finches and eat the niger seed from our finch feeders.
