Well this is a caterpillar...so I googled brown caterpillar with green spots and this is what it is:

Commonly known as Abbott's Sphinx! Cool find.

Thanks, All. You nailed it Lynn; Abbott's Sphinx. Even though it's the first we've seen in over 35 years the state entomologist tells us they've been documented in these parts as early as 1940!
