Lawn Decoration

Not uncommon to see pileated woodpeckers in the woods and occasionally on roadside trees, but this is the first one I've seen on ground. He flew into our back yard, landed on a small walnut tree, then down to the ground where he hopped around almost like a robin. Might have been feeding. It was hard to tell. Eventually he flew back into the woods.

Very cool that you got this pic! One landed on a tree right beside me yesterday ... not sure who was more startled at the closeness. He/she was gone in an instant after i was spotted.
