I've been to a coffee and soup morning which was held in the vestry of Elstow Abbey church. It is a lovely church and it was quite a nice little gathering of about 15 to 20 people. I have managed to get a couple of new clients by going to talk to them. I went to tell them how I can help them and give them some information about 5 a day as it's the start of a new year and often people want to eat healthily.
One of the gentlemen has age related macular degeneration which means that he is now registered blind. I am going to try to find a land phone that can be used by speaking to it rather than dialling numbers as he cannot see them. I am sure that I will be able to help him with other things as I didn't want to ask in front of others whether he is getting Attendance Allowance. It is amazing how many people do not realise that they are eligible so I shall make a home visit.
The other gentleman needs an alarm which he can use to warn him when his vegetables are cooked as often older people sit down in another room, get involved with watching TV or fall asleep and burn their pans in the process! One of the young helpers there suggested that I speak to him as he was interested but didn't like to accept my offer of help. Anyway, he has agreed for me to contact him so I shall make a home visit and again see what else I can help him with as people are often too proud to ask for help.
When I left, I grabbed my bridge camera out of the car and thought I would take a pic across the church yard toward Moot Hall which is the building you can see in the pic. I have posted a pic of Moot Hall before but not from this view. I rather liked it with the grave stones, etc. in front and the stone wall as I think it makes it more interesting.
@killeen@quietpurplehaze@daisyjuds@beryl Thank you for your kind comments. I really enjoy my work and it is important to gain people's confidence in order to be able to help them. Everyone is different and you just have to treat each accordingly and find a way in somehow.
What a lovely picture! And you are lovely in your compassion and your work with those who need assistance, Rosie. :-) Thank you for sharing your day and your picture with us.
This is a great shot of Elstow Rosie, it's such an under rated place, I can't think why we don't make more fuss about it locally! - and being privileged to know you personally I can see exactly why people would be happy to have visits and assistance from you!
