Copper Mine in Arizona

This is a modern copper mine in Green Valley, AZ. The town is very close to the mine, making me wonder about the health impacts on the local population and the environmental impact. I'm not advocating a return to the Stone Age, but I think we should understand the true cost of modern technological advances. The day was hazy, and I struggled to get a decent shot. It's frightening to see what mining does to the landcape. The desert is very fragile, and a big mine like that will scar the landscape nearly forever.

Interesting that Google includes the tailing ponds within the area of Green Valley. It certainly has grown.
