I have been Pushed this week by e.gad to take a selfie. Well this is my first ever attempt (may well be the last as well!). I have an aversion to portrait and people photos so to be challenged to do a selfie was my worst nightmare realised. I knew it would happen. So whilst I was feeling brave and the weather is being kind I had a go.
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
Hey Sally... I totally understand your aversion to taking a selfie. I had it for the last challenge and hated it as well. In fact I trashed mine as soon as I knew who the 5 finalists were. You have been much better than me with your selfie! Outside. In the sun. Full face. Wow! You have been so brave! I salute you :)
@steeler@aspada@shannew Thanks for the kind words!
I would not have been surprised to see men in white coats bearing a straight jacket come through the door. There I was using a teddy bear sitting on a bucket to get the focus, setting the timer, dodging three dogs, moving bucket, sitting on a tree stump and trying to look all calm and collected by the time the shutter clicked. I could hear Bonnie having a serious giggle, and my sister-in-law saying 'gracious' as only she could!
I did the last 5 me every week challenges of my first year, other than the ones I got away with feet or hands only - and deleted them pretty fast after I'd finished - I really don't like them either and totally sympathise with you not liking them
I feel bad that I caused so much stress. Your portrait is beautiful. The lighting is gorgeous and your are calm personified! I am fav'ing this. Great job overcoming your fear.
@egad Thank you so much, guess I must also thank you for the push! :-)
I can guarantee that this would never have seen the light of day without your push.
Super high five and huzzah for pushing and overcoming your fear. I love having a face to go with a voice (even if it is in writing)
You should use it as your profile pic.
wonderful selfie! I will admit that I thought about it last week, but since that is also one of my least favorite things, I wasn't going to ask you to do something I myself wasn't really excited about doing ;)
@dhostick I'm also pleased you didn't challenge me with this. My first get pushed challenge was to do a portrait which was scary enough, to have then had the second a selfie I think I would have just given up! Al least now I shouldn't get this challenge again! I loved the challenge you set and want to do more and more slow shutter stuff!
@tigerdreamer HaHa, I need to keep my followers and get some new ones! I'm not sure this shot will stay for very long, although whilst I'm doing the Get Pushed challenges maybe I should leave it lying around....
Hi Sally nice selfie. It came out really great. Its beautiful the way the sunlight lights up you hair. For using a timer I think it is a fantastic job.
I don't like selfies either and try to avoid them when I can. At first I didn't even want to do them- but now the challenge is that if I have to, how can I do it without the traditional sit in front of the camera pose. I've only done a handful of them! I think I shall add the possibility of having to do a selfie to my "I don't want to do the Push Challenge because they might ask me to do something my camera can't do!" reason for not doing the challenge. lol Aside from all that- this came out really well and it's so nice to have a face to go with the name! And it's a really nice face too!!
