A final shot from last Saturday’s evening in Senglea. A luxury schooner is berthed along the Birgu Waterfront right in front of Fort St Angelo.
Birgu is situated on another tongue of rock jutting out into Grand Harbour, as is and parallel to Senglea. It was the place where the Knight of St John took up their residence when they arrived in Malta in 1530. The fort was there hundreds of years before their arrival (not in the present form). It was strengthened by the Knights and withstood many assaults by the invading Turkish forces in 1565. During British presence it was the naval headquarters of the British navy’s fleet in the Mediterranean.
Thank you very much for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
