Drop Everything And Read! by sarahsthreads

Drop Everything And Read!

When my oldest started Kindergarten, her teacher had DEAR time in the schedule every day. She was still only four but already an avid reader, so this was the absolute best part of her day - though it took me weeks to figure out what it meant. "Drop Everything And Read" - what a great concept! We've been using it at home ever since, and when I feel like they've been plugged into screens for too long - like during this ridiculously freezing cold school break week - I just announce that it's DEAR time, and this happens. I stop and read, too, because I have to set a good example, of course!
Fabulous idea:-)

Fav'ing for a great capture and idea. Wow, I've been doing this for decades and didn't know it had a name. (My R today was read, too)

I worked in a 7th through 9th grade junior high for some years, and we had a 20 minute mandatory reading time at the same time every day. Everyone, from administrators to students, stopped everything during that time and read!

@tillystartedit @hinaansari @linnypinny @aglennc Thanks! It's such a good habit to get in, and it's (selfishly) a nice break from the screens and noise and sibling bickering. :)
