My oldest's dance observation was tonight. They're doing an excerpt from Swan Lake for their ballet piece, and have these enormous, romantic tutus to wear for it. They got to try on their tutus and do their number wearing them tonight, and it was lovely to watch - with about 6 weeks to go to the recital, it's getting very exciting to see everything come together!
(I only wish they'd put the chairs in front of the mirrors so we could see their faces instead of their backs!)
Oh my, and did all you mothers have to make their costumes??? I remember those days. My daughter only danced till she was old enough for softball and soccer, however. So my costume making was short lived. (She's 47 now and stll a soccer player, triathlete, ironman competitor..... sports were/are her forte! Not dance!))
@aglennc No, thank goodness! We do have to sew the straps on the leotard to the correct length (which is why they're all wearing the tutus over their regular dance wear) but the studio orders costumes from a catalog. Honestly, as much as I enjoy sewing, I don't mind paying for pre-made costumes when they're as complicated and sequin-filled as these usually are. The materials would probably cost nearly as much as the costumes do, anyway!
