The afternoon light streaming in through the window made for some intense lighting on my daughter's face. The fact that the rest of the room was thrown into complete darkness is a plus, as I am not the best housekeeper in the world. :)
I know I have such a long way to go to get where I want to with photography, and I sometimes feel a bit discouraged when I fall into the trap of comparing my work to others, but I am starting to see how far I've come. Knowing how to manipulate my camera to see the light the way my eyes see it is a good first step, anyway!
Thank you to all who commented on yesterday's photo, I was so surprised to wake up to all the kind words!
I've definitely seen your photography grow. But I know how tempting it is to compare ourselves to others. Hang in there and celebrate the small victories.
I'm a member of a few photography facebook groups, and the people in those groups are so incredibly talented. There are also monthly selections and it can all be so very competitive. I try to step back and just focus on what my project is about for me, and not worry about whether or not anyone else likes what I do. What's funny is that my favorite images are always ones that fall flat! I think this image is lovely, and it's so much fun to play with exposure. So many of your images have stood out to me, and I always enjoy seeing you in my feed.
@samzee Thank you! It is tempting, especially surrounded by so many talented photographers on this site. But the level of talent here also gives me a reason to look at my own photos more critically and try to figure out how to make them better.
@bebecitosfotos Aww, thanks! I've also found that some of my favorites go unnoticed while some that I wasn't too sure about posting are given a lot of attention. And you're right - I started this project with the goals of posting a photo a day, keeping a record (of sorts) of my year, and improving my photography skills. Two thirds of the way in, I'm meeting every one of those goals!
