The messiest way to help a toddler color Easter eggs: take shaving cream, add drizzles of food coloring, swirl them around with a chopstick, and roll the eggs in the resulting concoction.
It would have been a little less staining if we could have talked the kids into wearing plastic gloves!
The monster dinosaur egg on the plate turned into the pretty pink and purple speckled egg after a good rinse, though. So, maybe with a little modification we could try this again?
@tracys Thanks! I know, it was so messy at mom & tot, but I really kind of want to do it again because it was cool looking. That's our standard "jazz hands" pose. I teach my littles the phrase "jazz hands" from a very early age so that I can a) take pictures of colorful little fingers and b) we can maybe make it to the sink without staining anything on the way. :)
