We tried yet another egg dyeing method this year, where you put rice in a lidded container, add food coloring, add an egg, and shake it up. We wound up with some very pretty eggs and maybe slightly less mess than the dye tablets in the kit that we would normally use.
I really need to find a nice cardboard egg carton to use for easter egg photos. Our local grocery store switched to cardboard several years ago, but then switched back last year for reasons they never explained.
