Thick Knee by seacreature

Thick Knee

As more houses are being built around us, the vacant pieces of ground are fast disappearing and these timid, nocturnal birds are becoming more scarce. It is such a privilege and a pleasure to spot one of them in the few remaining plots of undeveloped land.
His coloring is beautiful! I know what you mean by scarce undeveloped land...we used to be surrounded by farmland but housing developments are springing up left and right.

@beckyk365 @narayani @ducasrouge Thank you for the comments. Narayani I agree. The name is very unfortunate. It used to be listed in the bird books as a Spotted Dikkop, but it seems the experts decided it should become a Spotted Thick Knee

I love this shot. The Bird With The Funny Name seems to have something on his mind. Wonderful find and shot.

@bf2016 Hahaha. I love that ... The Bird With The Funny Name. Top of his mind is diverting my attention away from his next now that he realised his disguise has been seen through. Their modus operandi is to stand incredibly still, but if they are seen they run away from the nest, hoping to divert attention

@eevaliisa Thanks Eeva-Liisa. I also like these shy birds with their amazing camouflage. He doesn't look camouflaged in this photo because he has been isolated by depth of field, but I almost didn't see him standing still in the bushes.
