Beach

There's been a strange, vaguely unpleasant smell the past day or two and I discovered there is a red tide again, so lots of dead and dying lobsters and fish on the beaches. I nipped out to see if there was anything of interest to photograph, but the only beach I could get to where there were no police had nothing of interest. I can only imagine the police are patrolling the beaches to stop people picking up lobsters etc. Dead ones are toxic from the red tide, and of course those that are still living are protected creatures.
Oh weird .. I had to google 'red tide' to see what it was .. must be a bit unpleasant..

even though it's not of the dead lobsters, I still think this has a sort of desolation with the lumps of foam and the emptiness

@julzmaioro When there is a red tide I just feel sorry for the sea animals that die of suffocation. The algae blooms deplete the seas of oxygen which is why so many lobsters die. I think fish are mainly okay because they swim away

@anniesue Yes it is kind of desolate and empty. And other than a policeman driving along the beach there were no other people around.

I love this shot. Terrible to read about the red tide. We get something similar in our rivers sometimes, but I’ve not heard of it on beaches.

a great shot of this dire situation. We had it in Strand a few months ago.

@narayani Thanks so much Narayani. I didn't realise it would also occur in the rivers, but I suppose there is no reason why not.

@ludwigsdiana Thanks Diana. I think I remember reading about the red tide in Strand. And also in Jeffrey's Bay a few months ago, I think.
