Those who know me might recall there used to be dozens of photos of the marina near where I live. Until Tug died, that is. We, (my 4 yorkies and I) walked along the marina path almost every day, and I would carry Tug, my "little old man" when he stopped walking to indicate he was tired, and then let him carry on walking when he was ready. After he died Holly wouldn't walk any more. She just stood looking for Tug on the sides of the path and in the water. This was the last place she had seen him before I took him to the vet after our walk. So I eventually managed to get her to walk on a lead on the road from our house. Today however I decided to try the marina again. And again she wouldn't walk. Just stood scratching at my ankle to be picked up. So I ignored her and walked a few steps then stopped, turned around and called her to me. She would come up to me and scratch my ankle, but wouldn't walk any further - so I repeated this process the length of the path until eventually on the way back again she actually walked next to me. Not like she used to when Tug was also walking and she dashed on ahead with her ears pricked up. Nope, just demurely walked next to my feet. But at least she walked, so it's a start in helping her get past grieving and looking for her lifetime companion.
