In the kitchen

I really much prefer the rose I posted into 6th of this month, but from a diary perspective this shot is more appropriate for today as this is what kept me busy part of the day. I went to a vegetable farm about 30km away with a friend. They were selling off the end of the crop cheaply. There was little choice in veg - it was simply what was left before they cleared the field for the next planting. Everything was R10 per kilogram so I bought a kilogram of anything they had - garlic, chillies, brinjals, and tomatoes. The workers went out into the fields to pick from the plants and to dig garlic as we waited in the shed. What could be fresher than that! The garlic is very tiny cloves and a kilogram is more than I can use easily so I was shelling it and putting it into olive oil
rich warming colour and a great story - I've just read an article about modern gleaning, which is akin to what you've done

Mouth watering shot of what many/most of l have not yet achieved…as a route to an inspirational capture. Mea culpa…

What a fabulous way to shop! And a wonderful photo to mark the day - such rich, warm colours.

@anniesue Thank you. Haven't heard of modern gleaning before, but it is great to be able to buy straight from the farmer before he uproots his crops. Win - Win. He gets extra sales and the community gets cheaper produce

@s4sayer Thank you very much. I am looking forward to my garlicy olive oil to use in future, and I hope that is a way to preserve garlic cloves for future use too?

@narayani It sure is a fabulous way to shop. A lovely outing and I came home feeling really happy with my purchases. Yes the tomatoes are not perfect like one sees in the store - they are marked, and it is the end of the crop, but they are very tasty as organic sunripened fruit usually is. The garlic is the small cloves that don't go to the shops. But the brinjals were young and tender
