Gourds by serendypyty

Gourds

When I was a child my mum grew gourds in the garden and they produced all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. I repeated this with my children in 2012 and the garden was taken over by the huge plants. We harvested lots of fascinating gourds and dried them out. Of the many that we had only a few dried successfully and you can hear the seeds inside when you rattle them. They were put in a box and stored away. This morning I opened it up not quite sure if I'd just find a pile of dust but apart from loosing their colour they're still all intact and rattling. I knew they'd come in handy one day!
I remember them being in the garden. They took over the garden so much they were like triffids haha! Maybe I can grow my own one day!

Great selection. I love the knobbly ones. My mum also grew them when we were children.

Such great textures, an awesome photo op! I've never grown them, but I do gourd art (with the smoother varieties anyway.)

Love your picture and story! In Houston we tried it too, but never succeeded. We had enormous plants and yellow flowers, but that is where it stopped...

Nice shot, too bad they lost their colour. We used to drie gourds out when we were children. For some reason we never grew them in the garden.
