Vegetables

So I thought I'd follow a YouTube video and make some carrot flowers, it looked so simple and the aim was to end up with a bouquet. However, it was very difficult and this is as far as I got with flower number one. Having got totally frustrated with it I stuck the knife in, sat back and said "so what vegetable photo do I do now?" Hubby pointed to the mutilated carrot and simply said "That!" 🙄
The one with the knife in it looks like a bird to me… most likely because I’ve done an entire month of birds for my January calendar!

Well... I just made a simple salad: grated carrots, celery and apple, tied all up with mayonnaise and sprinkled with dry basil. Not frustrating at all and most yummy. I think you can repurpose this carrot.

I wonder what a carrot flower looks like. I’ve never seen one. There must be one somewhere. The veg that I am like today is a couch potato. I’ll leave that for another day.

Your photo very definitely tells the story but carrot flowers seem like they would be very difficult to make

So funny. I had a fleeting thought to do the same but knew that it would end in disaster. You were brave to try. I feel a bit of a challenge coming on to give it a try. Better warn A&E!!

@wakelys Haha! I think one reason it all went wrong is because I was frightened that the knife would slip. I may well try again all the same - just need a few more kilos of carrots lol!

@monikozi My husband has already eaten the cut up carrot. Not for me I'm afraid, I prefer them cooked.

@kvphoto On closer inspection I think you're right, this is definitely more bird like than flowery.

@maggiej Now why didn't I think of couch potatoes!

@grammyn It was very tricky but I'll try again another day.

that needs skill, a really good hand with a very sharp paring knife and a lot of practice. twenty some years ago, i took hotel and food/beverage management to embark on a new career. i almost failed my food prep course because i couldn't do this. i was so afraid of cutting myself and most of the students did. as i knew first aid, i think that's what gave the teacher incentive to give me a passing grade when i attended to my classmates who had varying degrees of cuts in their hands and fingers.

kudos to you for trying. when those video tutorials say it's easy, it's actually not. and where knives are concerned, i stay away. your husband is a very wise man. 😉

Good for you for trying, but I would have been too chicken. Also I agree that those videos make everything look easy!

This captures the hard work involved, that's for sure! (and great colours: orange, blue, green)

I like that you are trying different things. It makes a great photo. I quit trying to be Martha Stewart when I realized how many different people she actually had doing the different projects she showed on her TV show and in her magazines. I do give her credit in that she never claimed to do it all, but to us on the outside, it seemed like it.

That is what happens a lot to me too!

Good on you for trying, I would never have the motivation
