Niger seed war

This is far from a good photo because I have had to crop it hard. I could not zoom in because the goldfinches where moving around too much. Had I been zoomed they would have been out of shot most of the time. I would very much like some advice as to what settings I should have my camera on for shots like this to get a clearer picture. I had it on burst with picture priority.
I do like the energy of this shot.

Good capture of fighting though, I didn't know they were so vicious!

A high shutter speed would have given you a sharper / freeze frame pic but the blurring of the wings in your shot conveys the energy and viciousness of the tussle.

@dawnbez The picture priority is in the burst setting. My camera can be set in either picture priority or speed priority. I tried both but didn't seem to make much difference. Any creature can be vicious if fighting for food. There was actually three goldfinches fighting for two perches on the feeder but I only managed to get two on the pictures.

@bluerose15 Thank you for your advice. I am still learning about shutter speed. I will remember this and try it next time I have a situation like this.

You have really captured the seriousness of the altercation :)

I like the wing movement! Check this one out, it's really short to read and has a bird picture as well: http://digital-photography-school.com/shutter-speed/
