It has been our local show today. We have been very lucky with the weather after a heavy shower in the morning the rest of the day was lovely sunshine. This picture is a very small section of our industrial tent. The judging is just about to start. I think it shows up best on the black background.
I can smell that grassy smell you get in these marquees Shirley. A grand display of cakes & biscuits to judge. I was steward in the horticulture tent at our local two day show fir twelve years....a massive Mount of work so hope all went well!
They net our food off so people cannot touch and have the tables a bit away from the tent wall to allow marshals to sit; I am not sure what they think we will do but I do think it can be very competitive. :-)
Thank you everybody for your lovely comments. @gijsje@barneyone@hermann@bkbinthecity@cutekitty@deborah63@ingrid_marianna@annepann@peterlgrave@stiggle@lavenderhouse@kimdavis@elmay thank you all for the time you take to look at and comment on my picture. It really means a lot to me. The show was a great success, a lovely friendly event and all went well. @happypat I am a steward in the marquee for this show and yes it is very hard work, and ours is just one day. @bruni They are judged on both presentation and taste. @callymazoo We have never felt the need to net our food off from the public. We do cover it with cellophane after judging and there is nearly always one or two stewards about in the tent but we do not sit with things. I actually managed to win the cup for the most points gained in the industrial section this year. It will be the tenth time I have one this cup over the 34 years I have shown at this show. It must have been my lucky day because I also won first prize in a raffle which was a lovely food hamper with all sorts of goodies in.
@shirleybankfarm sounds like a very successful day. I usually win for my bread. I am about to enter a few more things in the other local show at the end of September so may need a wee practice.
We used to have a village show in a marquee years ago - always the first Saturday in August. I always remember the smell inside the marquee just after it had gone up. You've brought back many happy memories for me! (Congratulations on your cup and prize - did you put your photos in too?)
