Quoits by shirleybankfarm

Quoits

Today we went to Dufton agricultural show. It one of the most beautiful setting for a show I have been too. The field is right at the bottom of the Pennine Fells. You look straight at Dufton Pike as well at Cross Fell and Great Dunn Fell. We spent a little time watching the game of quoits. This is the only show that I know around here that have this game. It is played in pairs each person having two quoits. I don't know the full rules but it involves taking turns to throw a quite heavy shaped ring towards a peg which is set a distance off. I'm not sure how they score but presume it is the one that is over or nearest this peg that gets the point.
Nice shot

The game you play with the ring is probably what we play here with a horse shoe. as for the location of your show...it's so beautiful with the rolling hills and the deep hanging clouds.

This game used to be what they played on the boats coming to and from England! Not enough excitement for me! Unless there was a great prize!

Such beautiful green coutryside. We don't get much of that in Oz, especially during summer

@bkbinthecity @happypat @susanalena @bruni @maggiemae @cutekitty @deborah63 @onewing @stiggle @sangwann @peterlgrave @kimdavis @julienne1 @tosee Thank you for your comments, I really enjoy reading them. I have heard of this or a similar game being played with horseshoes also. I always thought it was the one with the most over the peg but they seemed to be scoring somehow even when none of the rings were over the peg so I assume it was maybe the nearest that got the point. I will have to esquire next year if I go.
