@vignouse - Yes they are very different. They were called robins because of their orange breast much like the European Robin, but these birds are members of the thrush family. There are Eastern Yellow Robins too, but they live in the midwest. I'd take a European Robin any day!
@maggiemae@judithdeacon- I guess these birds are more commonly known as American Robins. I'd take a European Robin anyday, Their call isn't particularly a pleasant one. Here is a Youtube link for you to hear one of its sounds. If there is a chance of rain they sing another song. They eat berries, worms, grubs and insects. In our area they normally migrate and return sometime in February. This year since we had such a mild winter some stayed. They eat both in the tree or on the ground.
