Yesterday was Alexis' actual birthday and after setting off early from the south coast to Norfolk, we arrived at my sister's house for another party this time with my family. I wanted another candle/cake shot but my sister lit the sparkler candles when I wasn't ready so I grabbed the camera which had my 35mm lens and not one of the wider angles so I only had a moment to capture something.
I was thinking of something a bit more dynamic...cake in the foreground, Alexis behind with fat cheeks full of air ready to blow the candles, maybe some other faces each side of her gently illuminated by the flames...but it didn't happen. This is way more tricky than a morning sunrise...annoyingly so.
I feel like I haven't taken good shots of her for months...partly due to the fact I don't live nearby and also because I don't want to make each visit with her about the camera.
It's a record of the day, but I always feel like I should be getting something much more professional looking. Never helps having good taste sometimes...!

This is a beautiful photo of her and captures her with the excitement of her cake and sparklers, It is a more natural shot and I really like it. I hope she had a great birthday and enjoyed spending time with you.
You are a dad first & foremost so never mind the profesional mind at times like this, Alex would have lost all spontenaity if you had posed them all! Sometimes you just have to forget your photographers hat! Love the birthday glitter on eyelids!
