took this pic on my morning walk. It is all there is between- the rubber on the road- cars and trucks speeding by, and protection from potentially distracted drivers along the walking path. People have tendencies to drive quite fast at times. Always in a hurry and the noise is... well it gets noisy on my walk. if one chooses to walk in the pre-dawn hour, then one will find less traffic and some peace and quiet. As more and more Americans enjoy their SUV's and driving, it is a freedom that few are willing to give up.
there is always a bicycle, walking, city transit by bus, or cab, or uber ride, but Americans love to drive. Hello, Monday morning commute... hello traffic jam.

It doesn't look much of a protection , we are the same here in the UK. I love to drive but usually it's to take me somewhere devoid of people and cars .
