Grasshopper? by stownsend

Grasshopper?

I thought grasshoppers were green but this little guy looked and acted like a grasshopper. Can anyone confirm what he is? His legs are part red and he has a yellow stripe down his back - maybe he is a coward grasshopper!!
No idea what he is but that's a fairly amazing shot!

He's beautiful--not a fan of jumpy bugs, but I would have tried for a photo too. It's an Eastern Lubber Grasshopper, by the way!

Suzie, your company is just lucky to be with you and Kirby. I know they'll have a wonderful time. Are you planning any excursions around Charleston?

Learned something here - I didn't know grasshoppers came in different colors... Good picture!

Beautiful shot. It's amazing how colorful these insects are when you get close and personal. I found a website that says it is a horse lubber grasshopper. It's called a "horse" because the yellow goes around the head of the grasshopper like a horse's bridle.

Sue
there are over 11,000 types of grasshoppers, tho I do believe this one is a horse lubber grasshopper...do you live in the south western United States?
