We said good-bye to Mader's Cove and Mahone Bay and headed back to Lunenburg. The golf course is on the bay at Lunenburg and opposite the wharf and the town. Just off the golf course is where we found Jeff floating face down in the water and rescued him after hearing his shout for help. When we confirmed that what we were hearing really was a cry for help, we rushed into our dinghy (we were on our sailboat) and motored as fast as we could but by the time we reached him, he was face down. And he was a big boy! It took all we had to haul his dead weight into our dinghy. Somehow we got him revived. (I kept yelling at him to BREATH!). We got him to the dock and the paramedics were waiting. He actually walked to the ambulance! Jeff, if you are out there I hope you are having a good life!
Wow! As sailors, we all prepare ourselves to have to do something like that someday, but I can't imagine the adrenaline and all the emotions of having to do it in reality. You were certainly Jeff's guardian angels that day!
What a story that is! It just astounds me, but truly, you two were his guardian angels! Have you never kept in touch? Some stories get around town, but I haven't heard that one here...
Ken's the golfer in the family here. He's at the course there, then it opens each morning, and typically plays again in the afternoon with friends. While it's just a 9-hole course, he says the hills make it one of the toughest he's played. Back home, he works out at the gym, but he says a couple games of golf are enough to keep him fit up here!
