This Vinca plant grows freely on the side of a little hill near our main garden. I love the star-like flower centers and the green leathery leaves. It would be an amazing cut flower if it were just a tad taller! lol
Here's a copy/paste from Wikipedia that talks about medicinal aspects of Vinca ... something I didn't know until today:
"There are at least 86 alkaloids extracted from plants in the Vinca genus. Vincristine, extracted from Vinca rosea Linn. (Catharanthus), is a type of chemotherapy called a vinca alkaloid used to treat some leukemias, lymphomas and childhood cancers, as well as several other types of cancer and some non-cancerous conditions. Vinblastine is a chemical analogue of Vincristine and also used to treat various forms of cancer."
Abe, it's a hardy ground cover called Vinca. The blooms are bigger than a violet. The leaves are quite waxy. I walk on mine from time to time and it survives easily. In fact it can be a nuisance if it's in a confined place as it will take over.
I forgot about vinca and cancer treatments. I remember learning that in nursing school.
