Stashing by sunnygreenwood

Stashing

On the surface it looks like this male Hairy Woodpecker is digging for insects but he's actually burying sunflower seeds in the bark. He flies back and forth between this tree and the deck buffet.

Many thanks for dropping by.
Fantastic - I love woodpeckers.

Fantastic Capture! I like the close up! Yes, they are busy making their stashes here as well! I do know that the nuthatch has been known to rob those stashes.

I didn't know that a woodpecker would make a "stash" of seeds. Your deck buffet is a wonderful place for birds! I like to see this one with his red cap, and his black and white coloring.

How interesting. Never realized they did that. Stash it away for a rainy day....or like I would think "hide it from the squirrels." Fantastic photo, so clear and beautiful contrast.

He is saving his treat for later. Hope he remembers where he has stashed his treats. Great photo today! I like the little bits of snow sticking to the tree trunk.
