I've been getting rid many of the tall phlox for the past couple of years, due to their ugly mouldy leaves. A good hybrid is resistant to the mildew but I've been finding the hybrids eventually revert back and I end up with a regular old mildewy phlox. Here's an example --- my Miss Pepper used to have a distinctive powdery pale pink shade with deep pink eyes but now she's a normal pink with ugly leaves! lol Still a pretty flower tho, so I'll keep a few around.
Thanks for all your kind comments on the Hens&Chicks series. It was interesting to hear about the Hens & Chicks Islands, the other types of plants called Hens&Chicks [eg Echiveria]. I have many of them in an old bird bath, which I will show you before the snow flies. I'm waiting for it to fill in a bit.
I think this is very pretty. The flowers look a lot impatient flowers but not in such clusters. It sounds like you know a lot more about growing beautiful flowers than I do. Your photograph doesn't show the "ugly" leaves.
I love how you name your flowers ;-) Beautiful photo. We are experiencing heavy rains every afternoon creating yuckiness among the grasses and plants. I miss working in the yard!
