Monarch by sunnygreenwood

Monarch

I didn't see many butterflies this summer, with the dry conditions and all, so I was happy with this shot, closed wings and all! There were quite a few of them dancing on the sand and with three little tots in tow, I only spent a couple of seconds getting a shot of a butterfly.

Many thanks for dropping by.
Nicely done. They aren't easy to capture, because they are always in motion.

I did not see many either! I was getting worried. But I guess it is the DRY thing! Like you said. Now, we are getting more around and it has been more rainy. And at school in that outdoor classroom, they planted more butterfly bushes and lantana at the end of last year, and it has grown so much over the summer...so when I was down there the other day...wow. butterfly heaven!

How grand of him to pose so nicely for you, Anne. . .I think it's so neat when they are on the ground like this.

Beautiful...I hear they like to drink on sand...it gives them needed minerals or something.

These are such beautiful creatures and when they arrive they do it in force! I saw them in Canada one year and there were so many I couldn't believe it.
