The herons stay perfectly still at the edge of the shoreline and are pretty sure we can't see them --- but with a little bit of attention and practice, we can!
Getting a close pic is impossible because as soon as we slow down for a closer look, they hopscotch down the river keeping just ahead of us.
Lovely shot Anne - you need to talk to them softly as you gradually move closer. If you are lucky, they won't fly off unless a dog comes along to chase them which is what happened to me last week
