Not Just for Their Leaves by sunnygreenwood

Not Just for Their Leaves

The Hostas are in bloom now and contrary to popular belief, many of the blooms are quite striking. I have a friend who hand pollinates them at sunrise to get there before the bees. She covers the pollinated parts to ensure a bee doesn't undo her hard work. She has hundreds of known hosta varieties and is several years into cross hybridized varieties of her own.
Very pretty! Somehow these flowers always make me think of fairies.

Lovely shot. There was a hosta category at the Newport Flower Show this summer, and I was amazed at all of the different varieties.

Those are gorgeous. They look so plump and happy. Everything here is brown and deathly.

Most people grow them for their distinctive leaves, but I also like the blooms.

Such a lively shot! I can surreptitiously enjoy your hostas because here things are going brown and dying one by one in the heat.
