Isle of Pines, New Caledonia. by teodw

Isle of Pines, New Caledonia.

Isle of Pines is a very surprising place. A bit different to other tropical islands. Stunningly gorgeous, fabulous penal colony history, amazing snorkelling opportunities and a photographers delight. As part of New Caledonia it is French owned and influenced and that makes it all the more exotic for us Aussies.
This is Baie de Kanumera and the large rock (Le Rocher) is sacred to the local kanak people and must not be climbed on. Snorkelling in this area is great.

It's a beautiful island and most people who come here for a holiday will visit it. Our experience of the island is mixed. Very beautiful but very expensive and some of the worst service I have ever encountered. Your photo captures the general beauty of the place though.
