Sturt Desert Pea by teodw

Sturt Desert Pea

Hubby and I ventured off to the Big Red Bash which is held just out of Birdsville, Qld. It is the most remote music festival in the world. Goes for 3 awesome days and getting there and back is all part of the adventure. I am posting my phone pics for my own journal so please don't feel the need to comment. But I would like to say, if you ever get the chance, go there! It was bloody amazing. Loved every minute of it!
These would have to be one of the most unusual looking plants in Australia.

@gmonty, LOL, these are from last year, Ive been super slack putting pics up at all this year, but I'm in an inspired mood so I'll try harder as I was missing this site a bit. Those passengers on that plane at Camerons Corner must have had to change their undies.

@teodw yes I picked them up and brought them back to our strip where another plane picked them up. Very young pilot. Sadly the plane that crashed at Leigh Creek landed here day before and I ferried them to the corner and picked them up next morning, lovely people.

@gmonty, that was so sad. With so much extra air traffic in the outback because of the Lake Eyre spectacular, I'm actually not that surprised at these unfortunate incidents. When I was at Cameron Corner, I asked if I could put my drone up. Thought it would be a great opportunity as the airstrip was closed. They said no, because of the potential for stations to be mustering, but were nice about it. Told me to go fly it behind the sand dune on the NSW side so I could still get a picture of the store but further away. I didn't bother as I had some other spots in mind as well.

@teodw No ones mustering, can't believe they told you you couldn't fly your drone from the airstrip. The airstrip belongs to us but we closed it, too many near misses. Was it a man with long grey hair and cowboy hat that told you that?

@gmonty, I had asked the woman, then she went and consulted that guy and yes, he was the one who came out to say I couldn't fly it. I wasn't overly bothered and I kind of thought the mustering thing was a crock but wasn't going to challenge it. They were busy with people asking about the plane and a bus load of tourists had arrived and the road to Innaminka had closed because of the gas leak so they had a bit going on. I knew that past Sturt NP was some good clay pans and salt lakes so was happy to drone there. Over the next few days hopefully I get a chance to check out my photos on the computer and I can start to put them up. Got some cool astro shots at Fort Grey. Only one other camper there and no light pollution. It was awesome for astro. I love how you, Gina, manage a photo everyday because I think you must find it more challenging than others because your environment remains fairly similar.

@teodw I sometimes think "not another red sand, blue sky photo!" it does do my head in sometimes. Looking forward to going away for a couple of weeks, change of scenery new photo opportunities. Would have been hectic for them at the Corner that day with everything going on, busy week with so many people going to the Big Red Bash. The night skies are amazing for astro photography, I've tried it a couple of times but need a better lens. Look forward to seeing your night sky photos.
