I collected these leaves on a walk and flattened them under heavy books. I made up this flat lay and have submitted it for sharing and critiques to my camera club. Your comments here are so much more kind, it will be interesting to see the reaction from the "elite" photographers in the club. Happy November! How can that be?
A lovely gentle swirl of autumn colours. I do think the dark vignette is not sympathetic to your image, and if I was a picky camera club judge (with absolutely no qualifications at all) I might comment on those stems and ask if they could have been made a bit neater( or cloned out?)
Do let us know what your camera club judges said (and don't take it to heart, you judged this first as suitable to show and that is the best judgement there is!!)
@bkbinthecity@carolmw@haskar Thanks guys, for your visit. @30pics4jackiesdiamond Thank you Jackie for your critique, I don't disagree with your assessment of the vignette: the white background seemed too stark against the colorful leaves. I was hoping in make a cool design with the stems, Star of David or some recognizable geometric shape, but couldn't pull it off without re-arranging the pattern of the leaves. something to work on and a challenge to improve. There still are many leaves falling around here, so I can experiment some more. I'll report back on my CC reaction.
I like that your subject is not a typical flat lay. But yes, as the others have noted, some of the stems compete with your subject even though they are a part of it! I don't think a white background would be a detriment here- actually I think it would bring out the leaves and their details even more. All in all, it's a good shot with a nice flow.
