Ditch Hibiscus by timerskine

Ditch Hibiscus

Near our house the Great Branch Creek runs along side a main road. The creek was "straightened out" to run parallel to the road and deepened, so it looks like a normal drainage ditch. But if one pays attention to the ditch as they drive over it into the Centralia Crossing shopping center, they will realize it is much more than that. The creek is alive with flora and insect life.

The wild hibiscus just bloomed and will only be around a couple of days. I took advantage of one set of blooms where I could stand and not be threatened by traffic - I love everybody here at 365 but I'm not going to risk my life for your viewing pleasure ;-)

While the background came out better than I thought it would - and there's a bonus spider just to the left of the flower that I didn't notice when shooting - I'm disappointed in myself for messing up the depth of field. The outer edges of the petals are leaning forward and starting out of the field of focus. But overall I'm happy with the shot.

It is a beautiful shot. The background is especially nice.
