It was a clear day looking out to sea from the Virginia Beach oceanfront. The big ship here is the Vienna Express, a German-flagged container ship owned by Hapag-Lloyd. It is 1,100 feet / 335 meters long and 138 feet / 42 meters wide, which is almost the exact same size as the USS Ronald Reagan, a US Navy supercarrier.
The fishing boat is much closer in to shore. In the distance is one of two Coastal Virginia Wind wind turbines, 27 miles / 43.5 km off shore. They are 800 feet / 244 meters tall. Given this height and distance, this picture demonstrates the curvature earth. Unless you area a flat-earther, in which case, the turbine is clearly sinking.
@arnica17 I use an app on my phone called Marine Traffic. It uses GPS and ADS (ship's GPS-type system) to show you what's within sight of you. It can be used anywhere in the world.
