Mating Ritual

The female osprey on the left was being courted by the male on the right (don't ask how I know which is which, just read on). She was on the nest, he was on a nearby piling, lower down. They were exchanging tweets (osprey, despite their size, really do tweet and twitter) for quite a while before the male flew around a few times then landed next to the female. They settled for a few minutes when he suddenly started what appeared to be a dance (seen here) and she adopted the pose in this shot. Shortly after this picture, he flew off, made a couple of tight circles low over the nest then landed again...this time, on top of her. And that, boys and girls, is how I know which is the male and which is the female.
Oh my goodness. you make me smile. What an awesome shot and experience.
