I saw two C-17 Globemasters sitting at the end of Runway 23 at Naval Air Station Oceana.
The C-17 is the US Air Force's primary heavy lift transport, capable of carrying 102 troops/paratroops, 36 litter and 54 ambulatory patients and attendants, or 170,900 pounds (77,519 kilograms) of cargo. These are big beasts, not as big as the C-5 Galaxy, but impressively large nonetheless.
As they took off, they flew directly over my head! It was so cool. The second one, seen here, entered the low clouds just before it reached me. This picture, with the exception of some cropping to center the plane, is SOOC.*
