Iona Beach by tosee

Iona Beach

Begins at a Lake Superior northern shore cliff
of pink rhyolite and extends south to a headland of dark gray basalt. Storms, waves and winds have eroded slabs of pink rhyolite from the cliff, tossed, smoothed, and rounded them into pebbles or"shingles" forming this long beach. As the waves recede the "shingles" come to rest with a tinkling sound;.
Lovely composition. I like the colours of the shingle, and the drift wood looks like a dragons head.

What an interesting replacement for sand. Beautiful colors and composition in this photo and I agree with ShirleyB - the drift wood reminds me of a dragon, too.

I would love to visit - how far north of Duluth?
August 20th, 2015
@beschnett It is 42.6 miles from Duluth's aerial lift bridge, between
Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Light House

That is a beauty of a shot, Tom. The curve of the beach and the amazing blues of the sky, reflected in the water, are lovely.

A very different look when it's in color. This is a rock that I've never heard of. I like how the piece of drift would is buried in it.
