Rhys Cubby

For Rhys...
The Make A Wish foundation grants wishes to children with life threatening conditions, My grandson developed leukemia at the age of three and wished for this cubby. It has survived but not Rhys. Three months ago at the age of 19 cancer won the day.
That is heart breaking. I am so sorry, for him to be taken at just nineteen years old. This picture was obviously something special to him. A secret place and lovely shot.

Very sorry for your loss. We have two children in our school fighting it at the moment. A prep child in William's class who was diagnosed last year and one a few years older who was diagnosed a few weeks ago. Make a wish is a wonderful organisation bringing some happiness to those who are really going through a difficult time

That made me pause for thought Margaret. As a father and grandfather, it makes me cherish what I have. How very sad, my heart goes out to you and it makes your lovely picture so poignant.

@michellegaynor Thanks Michelle. He was a wonderful young fellow who taught us all how to face our own immortality.

@jo365 I appreciate your comments...feeling just a little low today. To watch little ones battle with cancer is a challenge. Medical science is gaining more knowledge and skills every year so I hope the little ones you know will benefit from this ever growing understanding of this horrible disease.

What a long fight and so sad that the cancer was so persistent. Advances in childhood leukaemia have been amazing and the chances are so much better for children now - for teenagers it's still a hard battle. I imagine that this cubby provided him with a lot of happiness and now provides a lovely spot for memories.

I am so very sorry for your loss, Margaret. The Make A Wish Foundation is a wonderful organization and I am so glad your grandson got to be a part of it. My mother has been a Pediatric Oncology nurse since I was a young child, so I have often heard her stories of some of these wonderful kids with this horrible disease. For her, many of them become like family and I grew to know many as well over the years. Some survived, others were lost. Take comfort in knowing they are no longer in any pain and they will be waiting to be reunited with us in Heaven. My deepest sympathy goes out to you. I hope his cubby will remind you of laughter and smiles and many fond memories.
