Excitement on the farm this week.
I was given three light sussex pullets for Christmas and this week they have come of age. I have received my first three eggs from them. Here is Lucy interrupted on her way to her nest this morning.
Our ducks and hens free range during the day but are caged at night. They keep us in eggs and poultry meat.
Further excitement has been provided by a pair of Swamp Harrier (birds of prey) that have been trying to dine out on our poultry. So far they have been unsuccessful in their attempts. Fortunately there are too many birds around who scream warning cries and everthing bolts for the cover of the weeds that are prolific with all the rain we've had here in Queensland of late. Throughout the state, many daily and monthly March rainfall records were broken this month. The place is sodden. What a change from the drought conditions we've experienced for most of the past 20 years.
by the way, welcome aboard
